Mission: Story Tapestries (ST) is a leading arts service organization primarily serving low-income families across the Greater Washington region. We harness the power of the arts to increase accessibility and equity in educational and community settings, with a goal that every individual has access to the arts as a tool to utilize in their daily life as a source of personal and community development. ST works with community members of all ages, prioritizing those with limited access to the arts and/or faced with adversities, bringing them professional performances, educational workshops (during and out of school time) and in-depth training programs. Through these programs, in addition to direct instruction we provide tip sheets, lesson plans and activity kits. We cultivate the use of performing, visual, and literary arts to develop voice, share stories, and increase literacy, STEAM and social-emotional skills. By collaborating with other like-minded organizations, we are able to have a deeper and more immediate impact on the community.

Results: Executive Director, Arianna Ross, and most of our team of teaching artists have been entrenched in the Greater Washington community for at least 20 years. Since becoming a 501c3 in 2010, Story Tapestries has reached more than 1 million individuals. Each year we engage 350,000+ people with free or donation-based services. Proven results of our arts in education programs include:improved academic test scoresincreased attendance and positive engagementincreased understanding of fine arts and academic materialStudents build their confidence and learn to take pride in their own work.
