You can make your own and can live without it, but why. it makes a job that could be messy, clean.Simple and easy to use.

Great stud finder. Very strong magnet Will stick to a metal stud thru 5/8 Sheetrock Can find lath nails in plaster walls. Carpenter 40 years this is the best
