A couple of years ago, I bought a fishing boat and found that I always had water in my live well without ever using it. The dealer could not tell my why so I figured I just had to live with it and keep draining the live well after each outing. I discovered one day that when I put the boat in reverse and turned the engine either way, the propwash would travel up the overflow hoses and into the live well. These items are scupper valves, but when I put them in my overflow hoses, they worked perfectly to keep water out of my live well.
