i use to have a smaller blue filter separator for like a decade that i think was a bonus with the coffee or filters and loved it. it went MIA and i can't find the same one but, happy to find someone (seems to be the only one) actually still makes a tool separator instead of the container ones that seems to be the norm nowadays. i am not having issues with it, it separates filters fine for me..

UPDATE; 4mths & a week later this tool just up and snapped in half on me! a pretty cheaply made tool for breaking like that from just daily use by a weakling woman! lowered rating from 5 to 3, it should of lasted longer considering i didn't drop it or anything like that.. think i am going to now use the black rubber from these and have my brainiac hubby make me a lasting tool this time around..

UPDATE: if yours breaks too, make your own using its rubber feets:
-get tongs that look exactly like the 'Cook's Corner 5-Piece Mini Tong Set'. (i bought mine at $ store, other like styles may or may not work)
-take ends off of one with pliers
-take rubber feets from broken filter separator off
-add a drop of superglue on each side of metal tong end & push rubber feets on.
**wait about an hour and poof you will now have an easy to hold about 3" long filter separator that will never break on you and is easy to squeeze! really love mine.
