Mission: The mission of take paws rescue is to meet the moral obligation to protect and save the lives of pets in need of rescue in louisiana. Take paws rescue enacts this mission by pulling pets from rural and high kill shelters and preparing them for transport to fosters, adopters, partner rescue organizations, and other shelters around the u. S. In need of adoptable pets.

Programs: In the wake of the flooding devastation brought by hurricane harvey to the western parishes of louisiana in august 2017, take paws rescue stood up to meet the overwhelming and immediate demand for help. The heartbreaking truth is that already overcrowded shelters would have to euthanize animals in order to make room unless rescues and adopters stepped in to take the animals. Prior to hurricane harvey, 100 percent of take paws rescue animals were housed in volunteer foster homes. In response to harvey, take paws rescue partnered with another 501c3, the inner pup of new orleans (tipno), to convert a 5,000 square-foot workshop on a 17 acre residential homestead in folsom, la into a temporary home for dogs displaced from the flooded shelters of hurricane harvey in st. Landry, vermillion and iberia parishes of louisiana, as well as flooded areas of texas. The takes paws/tipno refuge housed and saved 175 rescue dogs. Take paws believes it is important to maintain a surge capacity so that we will be ready for the next natural disaster emergency that our region will inevitably face. Overall, during 2017, take paws rescue fulfilled its mission with 251 animals rescued and adopted locally, and 175 animals transported out of state to partner organizations.
