Mission: The organization's purpose is to collect, preserve and display information and artifacts connected with the history of the town of thetford, vermont and the surrounding area and to educate the public about this history.

Programs: The society ran its library year-round. The library is open to the public and staffed 18 hours weekly.

the society temporarily closed its barn museum for 2016 due to road construction. There were no programs or open hours in 2016.The museum is a historic building with a collection of artifacts on display. The society also hosts special events and speakers at the museum.

this year the society sponsored an old fashioned barn dance in august. There were about 40 people attending the dance. Prior to the dance, two local experts gave swing dance lessons.

the society held a geography bee in early november. There were about 75 participants and spectators in attendance. Proceeds from the event were earmarked for special projects at the hughes barn museum.
