Mission: Trees for the Future is working to end hunger and poverty for farmers by giving them the tools, seeds, and training to regenerate their land. We are fighting climate change, hunger, and poverty through the generosity and engagement of our supporters!

Results: Since TREES was founded thirty-three years ago, we have planted 250 million trees and transformed the lives of over 300,000 people around the world. How? Our Forest Garden Approach transforms the lives of farming families. Within the first year, farming families can see an increase in food security by 100%. By the time farmers graduate from our Forest Garden Program, they will have increased their annual income by 400%, increased their food diversity by 80% and increased their access to nutrients by 574%. By planting thousands of trees through Forest Gardens, farmers in our programs have restored over 60 thousand acres of land and have sequestered 4.5 million metric tonnes of CO2.Do you want to make an impact on both people and the planet? Target demographics: smallholder farmers carve pathways out of poverty and hunger by planting trees in Forest Gardens through our Forest Garden Approach. Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty and hunger for 1 million people by planting 500 million trees in 125,000 Forest Gardens by 2025.

Direct beneficiaries per year: In 2021, we reached new milestones, planting more than 220 million trees, changing the lives of over 300,000 farming families, and restoring over 58,600 acres of land.

Geographic areas served: Sub-Saharan Africa

Programs: Through our 4-year training program, called the Forest Garden Approach, farmers plant thousands of trees that protect and bring nutrients back to the soil. This helps farmers grow a variety of fruits and vegetables, and produces byproducts such as fuelwood and livestock feed that they can use or sell on the market. Forest Garden farmers gain increases in income and access to food, even in the first year, all while improving the environment.
