Mission: Turnstone's mission began in 1943 as the Allen County Society for Crippled Children, a small volunteer-based educational program to serve children with disabilities who were largely ignored and dismissed by society. Almost in step with, if not ahead of, the progression of the Disabilities Rights movement in the United States, Turnstone has evolved its programming and service offerings, becoming an international leader in the important work of providing programs and services for children and adults with disabilities, with the mission of empowering them to achieve their goals and their highest potential. Turnstone's legacy is built on innovation, determination, enthusiasm, and justice, with momentum continuing to build toward our vision of nurturing a world in which all people are valued based on their abilities. (Less)
