Mission: Tutapona is a Christ-centered organization that facilitates emotional healing through mental health services for people impacted by war and conflict. Tutapona’s vision is to bring healing and hope in order to restore relationships, build peaceful communities and glorify Christ.

Results: Tutapona has been working with forcibly displaced people affected by war and conflict in Uganda since 2008, and Kurdistan, Iraq since 2016.Since our beginning, more than 50,000 have taken part in one of our mental health programs. We see exciting results among participants, with a measurable reduction in their trauma symptomology, increased well-being, and resilience to face future challenges. Mental health impacts every aspect of life from family, livelihood, education, physical health, and community relationships. We seek to empower individuals and communities to not only overcome hardships but to thrive because of them.

Target demographics: Adults, children and communities who have been affected by war and violence

Direct beneficiaries per year: 3397 people through our group programming, and provided 2712 individual support sessions. Throughout our organization's lifespan, more than 50,000 people have been able to take part in one of our programs.

Geographic areas served: Refugee and IDP settlements in Uganda and Northern Iraq

Programs: GROW, our adult, community-based mental health program, which aims to improve the mental, emotional, behavioral, relational, and spiritual well-being of participants by fostering attributes that cultivate the right environment and conditions for growth to take place, and;The Heroes Journey, our child focused, Post-Traumatic Growth program with an emphasis on positive growth. The Heroes Journey utilizes elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Shame Resilience Theory, among other interventions to empower participants to process their experience and develop positive coping practices.
