The only thing bad about this paracord is that it only comes in one color, lol. I love this stuff. It works just as advertised, and comes in both thirty foot and hundred foot lengths. Definitely worht buying. Ron

Haven’t used it as a fire starter or rescue rope but works great on my camping knife and other gizmos I carry with me.

This stuff absolutely sucks as tinder. The single flammable cord doesn't fluff and cannot take a spark unless you're using one of the monstrosity ferro rods. imagine trying to light a brand new candle wick with a spark. it just doesn't work. I would be fine if it was re-branded to flammable para-cord or something but not tinder. I repeat this does not work as tinder.

There are many a quote out there about the importance of preparation. This item (if not left in the car) can be a simple versatile item. Even simple day hikes can go side ways with unexpected adventures. all or part of this simple rope can fit neatly into a day hit for hiking. can be used for tinder, or string across some trees add an emergency blanket and now there is shelter.

This is brightly-colored rope constructed like standard paracord: a woven sheath on the outside, a bundle of cords on the inside. Although I have not tested its tensile strength (it is advertised as 34;550 paracord34;), it does seem strong. Once the sheath is cut, exposing and separating the interior cords is easy. Several cords are white and can be used for smaller load projects, while the red one is the tinder, which ignited fairly easily on a sunny day using a 3 inch Frersnel lens.

This is great for doing precisely what you'd want it to--it wraps and holds knots reliably like normal paracord, and the 34;tinder core34; works perfectly--it lights easily, then burns steady and slow (about like a candle), so you have plenty of time to get your fire started (and restarted). It's also easy to blow out when you're done using it, so you can save the rest for next time. My only minor complaint is that it's not super easy to cut. I used some less-than-ideal scissors, and really had to saw through the cord, which was then quite frayed. So a sharp knife or scissors would work best if you have the time to spare or want things to be perfect.

This is a great item to put into a backpack or even in with an emergency food supply. It accomplishes its purpose as a paracord and as a source of tinder to start a fire. It is can also be used for sutures and I have used it for a fishing line so the advertised features seem to be all there. It’s a neat item to have as a supply for all sorts of emergencies and even everyday uses such as camping.

Interesting product that works well. We are avid campers/hikers, and love the idea behind this product. It is implemented well. It's always a good idea to have paracord around, and to have it also serve as backup tinder is a great thing. We were able to use the red center to get a fire going. Our next plan is to tie this cord into a bracelet for hikes. Great idea for a product. A must-have on our future camping and hiking trips!

I can't say I've had to use the core of this cord to start a fire yet, but having that option is quite nice. The cord itself is made well, and it's extremely sturdy. When the leather neck strap on my old Rolleiflex decided to snap after 60 years, I could quickly cut off a length and tie it into a makeshift replacement in the field. Pay attention to the dimensions, because it's hard to tell the cord's actual thickness in the photos. This particular rope is thinner than I expected (not that that's necessarily a bad thing, just something to keep in mind). Overall, it's an excellent tool to have, and the great price means there's no excuse not to have it around.

I like the idea of paracord and tinder in one, and this one does pretty well. I can't get it to light with my fire striker, so it's not as easy as my normal dryer lint or cotton ball tinder, but it's a cinch with a match or lighter and provides a reasonably long burning flame (a 4 inch strand burned for a couple of minutes). It's give it 5 stars if it lit a bit more easily, but it's still useful and a nice 2-in-1 item to have on the trail or campsite.

This is great 550 utility paracord. Nice survival colors, too, easy to spot. Included and costing extra is a center cord which acts are tinder. As tinder, it is just OK. I could not light it with a ferrosteel flint, but one match lit it easily. Once lit, it stayed lit nicely. The material also seems water resistant, so when I wet it, then dried it, it still worked. That is a nice benefit. So, if you are gonna carry 30' of paracord in your survival kit, you might as well get this.

Despite my attempts I couldn't get it to light while the cotton was still inside the rope/nylon sheath. This is a good thing. I was worried about that. It is definitely better than nothing and is a great choice to make a bracelet from. It was not the easiest tinder to light, but went up no problem with a jet lighter. Keep in mind that oxygen is a critical component of any fire, so the more open/frayed you can get the tinder the better off you will be. Also keep in mind that this line has a static rating of 550. Not a dynamic rating. Try to use multiple lines in a rescue-- just like they do on its namesake, the parachute. Lastly I tried lighting it with flint and it was a long and frustrating experience. You can do it, and this tinder is better than nothing, but prepared to know basic fire starting skills to get it going.

I haven't had to use this rope for an emergency yet (and I hope I never will), but I cut a small piece of it off to test it out. The pieces fray very easily and there are lots of threads inside that can be used. I lit the inner tinder thread using a regular lighter and it burned just fine. In fact, the flame burned just like a candle wick, which surprised me. So assuming you have a fire source, this has a good burn to it. I am keeping this emergency rope kit in the trunk of my car as it's nice and compact and doesn't take up a lot of room.

This is just a paracord with a tinder thread running throughout so I' not sure why it is labeled as an quot;emergency kit.quot; That said, it seems like a good cord. It is smaller than I expected, but the size makes it portable and eas to include in a bag, jacket, or as part of an emergency kit.

This is a perfect item for the survivalist. My husband is really into it and this paratinder is a great item! It functions like your run of the mill paracord, but if needed can be used many additional ways. Being used as tinder is, of course, the function most worthy of boasting about. This is really great and my husband is excited to add this to his gear!

According to the Safety Data Sheet on ParaTinder this is: Nylon 6/6 Fiber 75-85 by weight Cotton (cellulose) 10-15 Paraffin waxes and Hydrocarbon waxes 5-10 Vegetable Oil 60;1 Basically, its string soaked in paraffin. If you haven’t been carrying fire starter when hiking and this tempts you to do so, then it’s a worthwhile purchase. Keep in mind that it may be tricky to get it going well with a striker; you probably should practice it once. ParaTinder is convenient, as it’s easy to carry, isn’t messy, and is ready to go. That said, another option is paraffin cubes you can easily make at home. Check backpacking sites for directions. Paraffin cubes can have much more paraffin than this cord only downside is a possibility of getting messy if it’s quite hot out.

I've picked up a few different 34;survival34; items lately, mostly for camping needs for next summer. And none of them were great, a couple were poor. Most were alright. This one, as a tinder source, would have ranked between 3 and 4 stars. There are ones that work much better. But this one got 5 stars simply because it's so VERSATILE. It's easy enough to use really good tinder when you want to start a fire, but that's all you do with it. The fact that you can create so many things with this 30 foot length that will act just like a normal small rope most of the time, but convert to tinder when needed, really makes this one a far more useful bit of equipment. Granted, you're not going to rappel down a cliff face with this, but it has a great strength and ties, knots, twists, and does everything else just as well as any small rope does. I had expected a bit of stiffness or something, but there's none. You'd think it was just some normal little rope for tent poles or something if you didn't know better. Fluffing it out a lot and I get it started pretty well with my magnesium striker. Again, there are ones I've got that start easier, but this one isn't 34;bad34; enough to warrant losing a star considering the fact that I can use it to tie things up and always have some tinder even when I don't have the rest of my pack. And the price for a 30 foot length is more than fair.
