Mission: The UCSPCA is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to prevent cruelty to animals by providing temporary shelter and finding adoptive homes for homeless, abused and neglected animals; conducting cruelty investigations ; eliminating the crisis of homeless animals by providing low-cost spay/ neuter services and by spaying or neutering all animals offered for adoption; providing humane education; and by working to improve laws to end animal cruelty.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Provide almost 1,000 animals with direct shelter and daily care; paired almost 900 families with their "Best Friend"; saved over 200 animals from euthanasia with transport programs; prevented animal cruelty and neglect through over 400 investigations with over 120 animals removed from unsafe conditions; provided over 20 animals safe haven from domestic violence; diminished pet overpopulation with over 1,200 spay/neuter surgeries; improve the health of over 300 animals with free rabies vaccinations; kept over 1,700 animals in their homes with pet food and behavioral assistance.

Programs: The Ulster County SPCA is a no-kill shelter focused on providing a physically and mentally stimulating environment for its residents until adoption. Our community programs, such as our pet food pantry, provide a variety of assistance designed to keep pets in their homes. Transport programs continue to ensure we help animals at risk for euthanasia in other areas by providing new adoption opportunities. The low-cost spay and neuter clinic provides affordable surgery, preventatives and vaccinations, as well as a grant partnership with the County for free feral/community cat surgeries. As the only Humane Law Enforcement agency, our peace officers conduct animal cruelty investigations throughout the County, while also providing humane education and safe haven for pets in domestic violence situations.
