This book is great for everybody, not just for those who deal with Usher Syndrome / deafblindness. It touched my heart so deeply, and learned so much. I totally recommend it.

Great to have a book with various stories relating to life with Usher Syndrome. This book would have helped me years ago when I heard Usher Syndrome for the first time.

Real-life stories written by people living with or loving someone with Usher's Syndrome. The stories paint a clear picture of life with Usher's sharing personal experiences with tremendous emotion and humor. It is hard for people on the 34;outside34; to truly understand what day-to-day life is like for people living with Usher's and this book helps the reader see more clearly what their lives are like on that daily basis. Definitely worth the read!

An amazing and powerful collection of true life showing those who have not experienced usher syndrome first hand how challenging life with usher can be. However, this book provides an incredible insight of the strength these people have day in and day out. I very highlh recomend this book and hope that it can show the rest of the world how much more research really needs to be done to come up with a cure for usher syndrome.

Walk in My Shoes is a fabulous read from 28 authors in 27 stories living with deaf blindness due to Usher Syndrome. Each story tells a different aspect of living with this disease. These authors are such brave souls to let the world into their unique and challenging lives. They never give up and continue to persevere. Their stories will truly inspire and captivate all walks of life. Each chapter has so much to teach each and every one of us. When life seems hard....turn these pages and see how these deaf blind individuals conquer life with a smile on their face. This is absolutely a one of a kind book that has never been written before by so many deaf blind individuals. What an inspiration to all!!!

Yes, I am one of the authors of this special book so writing a review seems kind of weird! However, until I got my own copy of the book, I had not read any of the other 26 stories so I really had no idea how the book was going to be in its entirety. Now that I'm reading it, I am so honored to be a part of this! As a person with Usher syndrome, I have my own experiences and sometimes it seems like I'm all alone in this process. This book confirms just how 34;not alone34; I really am! Each story is different while also teaching us about resilience in the face of adversity. For anyone with Usher syndrome, for anyone who loves or lives or works with someone with Usher syndrome, this book is for you! For anyone who just wants to be inspired, this book is for you! Thank you for the honor of being one of the contributors!

It may be unfair for me to rate this book since I am one of the authors but in all honesty this book helped me. I believe that this book is a great resource for those to learn what it is like to live with Usher syndrome and also learn from others that have shared their story. The stories are inspiring and give hope. Please give this book a read, you won't regret it!

I read this book as a partner of one who has 'Usher Syndrome' for honesty's sake, she is also one of the authors. Dealing daily with dual sensory loss can only be described as a life altering situation. This is a book by 28 authors all dealing directly or indirectly, with the same Syndrome, but unique in their differences. My partner is a remarkable individual, being a juried winning water colorist, marathoner, triathlete, rock climber, kayaker, the list continues so let's just call her an outdoorsy type of person who is multi-faceted. Okay, I feel it must be agreed she is an incredible person, not unlike many others, with the exception she lives day to day with progressive dual sensory loss, hearing and sight. My biggest criticism is that like others within this most informative book who are their partners it is society that 'disables' these, and other individuals. As an able bodied person shopping with your BFF or Mom, Dad, son, etc when did you find staff at stores listened to your question and would then direct their answer to the person on your left or right and not to you. When did you enter a restaurant and find their were no large print menus, and your server asked your companion what 'you' would like. Whether she/he would like a drink ? When did you last buy groceries, and have the receipt (you paid for) handed to your shopping friend. This book should be a compulsory read for all and any business that has a customer facing element. If you want to begin to understand how people can be marginalised and perhaps learn how to do something to change societies perspective of the supposedly 'disabled' please do yourself a favor and read this book. You will be enlightened and enthralled, it will change your life I almost guarantee.

Wow. This 'all-in-one-place' book of helpful resources and inspiring real life journeys with Usher syndrome is an excellent read for not only those who are personally affected by Usher syndrome but also those curious about what it would be like to experience the unthinkable dual sensory loss of both vision and hearing. 34;Walk in my Shoes34; really opened my eyes to see the possibilities vs the impossibilities; the abilities vs the disabilities; the hope vs the despair. The authors show that while we do not choose these particular challenges, we CAN choose how we respond and succeed despite these challenges. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wishes to witness the resilience, adaptation and determination of the human spirit.

Wealth of information/resources! I am so proud of each writer in this book for sharing their life living with Usher Syndrome. It's a brutal place to be but we don't have to be defined by it! We choose to live an active lifestyle at home, in school and/or at work with/without family members close by to assist. We are WARRIORS to educate the public's view about deaf blindness, and to connect with deafblind communities all across in USA and in other countries. I encourage you all to read this amazing book.

I have to first say, I'm somewhat 34;biased34; about this book being that I too, have Usher Syndrome, Type 2. That being said, some of the incidents shared by others in the book are very similar to my own experiences. Many are humorous, others are just simply real and sobering. It's wonderful to note that there are 27 different stories to read. In addition, the book has references for those who have Usher Syndrome to get additional information. I am grateful that the author, Ms. DeWitt, put this wonderful book together. Profits from the sale of this book is going to a wonderful charity whose primary focus is on resaerch and collaboration amongst researchers and the people who have Ushers. PROS: Varied stories from both, those with Usher Syndrome and their families. Humorous anecdotes throughout. CONS: None noted although I'm sure the author could have put many more stories out there but is limited to space.
