Mission: Wide Horizons For Children, Inc. , was founded in 1974 and is dedicated to the physical and social welfare of children everywhere and to the belief that each child should be given the opportunity to have a loving home. In addition to finding homes for children through adoption, WHFC is committed to providing humanitarian aid to benefit children around the world, particularly those who are waiting for a family and those who may never be adopted. Similary, we are committed to providing financial subsidies that will make it possible for more people to afford the cost of adoption.

Programs: Whfc provides adoption placement services from six countries including the united states. During the year ended june 30,2017,70 children came home to their adoptive families. Thirty-four child-focused adoption subsidies were provided to assist families with the costs of adopting older and hard to place children who have serious medical conditions.

during the reporting year, whfc continued programming focused on orphan care and orphan prevention. Our operational funding of twelve orphanages in five countries benefitted thousands of children who have a low likelihood of adoption or foster care solutions. With this funding, children received proper nutrition, stable and trained caregivers, and educational, medical and psychological services. Hundreds of special needs children were provided with physical and cognitive therapy and programming to enhance their development and quality of life. In moldova, 120 orphans benefitted from the individual attention from their own granny, offering love and promoting strong attachment and fine and gross motor skill development. We continued support to older orphans in eastern europe so that they could receive skills training, education and confidence for an independent life upon leaving the orphanage. Orphan prevention initiatives continued to focus on health care, nutrition, education and community development work. Over 1,500 families from a slum community in india received counseling and support services. In northern ethiopia, 1,500 children ages 9-14 attended school for the first time thanks to a sizable grant from the philanthropic organization geneva global. In addis ababa, 120 at risk elementary school children received nutritious hot lunches to sustain them through the day. Whfc continued to partner with two medical facilities in ethiopia (both built by whfc) through ongoing medical missions with a goal of building capacity and improving access and quality of treatment and care options for the surrounding communities. Child sponsorship programs aimed at family permanence in ethiopia, guatemala and india benefitted over 900 vulnerable children and their families so that family units can be stabilized and remain intact. In total during fiscal year 2017, our orphan care and orphan prevention work positively impacted the lives of 51,636 children and their families around the world.

whfc provides a range of adoption related services to clients throughout the united states. Expectant parents considering an adoptive placement of their unborn child receive counseling to support them in making the best decision for themselves and their child. Adoptive parents receive counseling and support from home study through post placement services. Wide horizons continues its support of birth families, adoptive children and their families after placement through post-adopt services.
