I had no idea of the project I was taking on when I bought a Wilson leather football. I was used to composite and using it out of the box. The leather ball came covered in wax and slippery as the devil. I washed it twice with a cloth to remove the wax and even covered it in mud. No good until I got this product, brushed off the remaining dirt and applied some wax. Ready to go now. (Skip the mud step!)

I have an official NFL football I bought about 30 years ago and it has seen better days. Plenty of scratches from street pavement and, because I used to keep it in my car for convenience, it got pretty dry and lost that tacky feel. So I bought the Wilson prep kit to see if it would bring the football back to life.While it did not turn my football a rich dark brown like some I've seen pictures of on the internet, it did restore it to look about 80-90 new. It did not completely remove the scratches (they were pretty deep in a couple of spots) but it definitely made them a lot less noticeable.My one complaint is that it did not really bring back that original tacky feel as much as I'd have liked. It IS a bit tackier and easier to grip than it was in that dried out condition it was in but it wasn't as sticky as I hoped it would be. Maybe another couple of treatments will get it to be a bit more tacky. Otherwise my football is almost as good as new again.

Followed the how to video and the ball turned out great. High school football prep kit from Wilson was definitely worth the money.

The heading may sound like I'm overstating it but I'm not. I used it to break in new balls that were somewhat slick and old balls that were really slick. After about 1 minute of applying the wax and brushing it out the footballs have an incredible amount of tack.

I got a brand new leather football, and I used this kit for prepping it and bringing out its natural tackiness. The brush is perfect for first restoring the football to its natural deep brown color, as it comes very light red from the factory. This initial coating needs to be removed, and once it is, the tack wax can be applied.Once prepped with this kit, the leather feels perfect and easy to grip/catch!

You will need this kit if you want to keep your expensive leather football looking and feeling good for life. This conditioning kit does a great job of keeping the ball tacky and conditioned properly. As all leather will patina with age this will restore the feel of a quality football.
