While not super-sturdy, these circles work decently well for holding cakes up to 3 layers and about 6 inches tall. Beyond that, they can buckle under the weight of the frosting. You have to be careful to pick up cakes "against the grain" of the corrugation, which helps to prevent creating a crease in the cardboard. This tendency has to do with the way I use them, which is as a surface for photography for Instagram. I use the 8-inch size for 6-inch cakes, giving extra surface for icing and decorating. For cakes of the same size as the circle, you may not have this issue. The grease-free surface is nice, too. Geek tip: if you want to use these circles for photographs as I do, buy some 1/8" white whiteboard tape to cover the raw edge of the circumference.
