Once you know how to work with this, you can't work without it.

Just buy it! I've been trying to add more texture to my paintings which is hard to do with oil. I added just a little paint with this and it gave me so much extra texture to work with, and didn't take away from the color. I'll be using this a lot more. Makes pallet knife paintings come to life! Great quality and price. It was very smooth and easy to work with/mix.

I use this additive to give loft to my paint when using pallet knife or brush. Leaves texture and height to paint. I can still paint wet on wet, blend, or let it gell. I've mixed as hot as 1:1 without issue.

I usually smear some on my canvases and wash it in with mineral spirits when working outdoors.Really helps to quicken drying time, which comes in handy when working alla prima. It allows just enough grab for oil paints in a small window of opportunity to build layers as painting unfolds..... and I don't have to worry about a bottle leaking in my paint bag.

As others have said this arrived as a useless gelatinous mess. I can see why they are selling it so cheap. Not really worth the effort to return it. Buyer beware on this one everybody.

Like everyone else, I got a congealed, discolored jelly. It sort of worked which is why I didn't give it 1 star, but I suspect it will go completely off in the very near future. I've bought liquin several times before from stores and never had it expired like this, which makes me wonder just how long this has been sitting for.

Someone on here wrote a review about this Liquin medium and said it looked grey. My bottle arrived today and it too looks grey. I believe it's the thick plastic bottle that gives the contents a grey-purple color.Just to be sure, I contacted Winsor Newton and asked them about it. When I get a response I will post it here.Update June 9:I received a response from WN. Hello Sandra,Thank you for contacting Winsor Newton.Yes, it can be very confusing to have different colored bottles of Liquin, but it's pretty common. The resin color changes gradually as it ages.It doesn't affect the properties or quality of the medium, it's just a quirk of this type of resin. It will start out as a purplish grey color and over time will shift into a light brownish grey.I sent a few photos of the bottle I have and the code. I was told that what I have was made last year so it should be fine to use.

The product works great and make the paint flow smoothly (i also reduced the amount of paint I use out of the tube with this product). However, the fumes are pretty intense. My eyes started to burn after 2 minutes of using the product. Within the next 5 minutes i got a head ache and I had to get out of the room i was in. I did that to myself by using the product in a closed room. I highly recommend using this product in a ventilated area and i guarantee you will be happy with the results.

Speeds drying more than you might think at first. Place about 1/2 onto a glass palette and dip into it with bristle brushes. Might be too thick for thin sables. I've tried a LOT of supposed 'Impasto' mediums and this is the only product that actually holds most of the brushwork while giving a thicker body of medium with less paint. It dries with a nice sheen but not as 'varnished' looking as standard Liquin, still my favorite for glazing and all around use. Both products sink in deeper because of the gel quality, not runny. This gives a nice tacky pull in about 15 minutes, dries solid in around 6-12 hours, with heavy or thin paint, and most of the brush texture is retained. No wax that I can tell. Slight smell but no bad. Watch out for some of the other brands that use Turpentine to cut the medium so that it flows better. MS is not nearly as toxic.
