Mission: The mission of WHEAT is to educate, advocate, motivate and empower individuals to action in the fight against hunger. WHEAT is:
*Headquarters for the Arizona Walks to End Hunger*Sponsor of the Statewide World Food Day (October 16) Activities in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations *Member of the United States National Committee for World Food Day *Champion of Life-Style Simplification *Advocate for the Poor and Disenfranchised *Home of the Norma Johansen Resource Library to End Hunger *A Hunger Education Resource Center *Member of the Hunger Advisory Council to the Arizona Department of Economic Security *Parent of The Clothes Silo, Interfaith Community Gardening and the Hand to Hand Project *Convener of the Management Training & Mentoring Program

Programs: WHEAT's major programs include the provision of curriculum for educational use for youth and adults in the area of global and local hunger; training for teachers and administrators in public, private and parochial settings; conference and summit speaking on anti-hunger issues and solutions.
WHEAT provides an active voice of advocacy at the local and federal legislative levels, speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves in the areas of poverty, welfare reform, justice in the workplace, nutrition and general assistance.
Providing professional business wear, free of charge, to women entering or re-entering the work force along with training and mentoring through The Clothes Silo is WHEAT's direct service outlet in the Metro-Phoenix area.
The Interfaith Community Gardening program is providing opportunities for neighbors to grow healthy foods for their use while sowing seeds of self sustenance through the sale of fresh foods all rooted in community ownership and leadership. Located in Maryvale, the community comes alive in its own oasis in the city!
Another major program of WHEAT is our Fair Trade Marketplace - the Hand to Hand Project, supporting self sustenance to artisans around the globe through the sale of their handicrafts.
