I tested it to make sure it would turn on before connecting it for good and it worked fine. Then, I pumped some hose water out of the bilge and that worked fine. But when I tried to pump water again, no water was removed from the bilge. At first, I thought I had a clog in the line so, get out the roto rooter and go to work. Went through the same process, same result, no water being pumped on second pump out. Then I remembered the check valve. I removed it, tried it again and, this time, the water continued to get pumped out on successive tries. I think the pressure of the water in the hose, sitting against the valve, was more than the pump could push through. So, out goes the check valve. I don't mind a small amount of back wash water in the bilge. I just want the pump to work.
