Being a collector of vintage Yamaha equipment for almost two decades, I had my eye on one of these since they first came out. I appreciate how Yamaha kept the classic aesthetic, but backed it with modern connectivity and improved speaker outputs. It has that hallmark Yamaha natural sound I have grown to appreciate, and the minimalist look blends in with my retro decor without looking out of place with bright lights or glossy panels that attract scratches and dust. For the price, it's a nice value, and puts out enough sound to fill my living room. The amplifier can drive my 4 ohm Dynaudio speakers with ease. Compared to vintage units, the added remote is a nice touch, even if it is something I will not use very often. If you place it next to Yamaha's contemporary receiver line in the same price range, everything about this unit has better construction and materials. My only complaint is the choice of plastic for knobs and controls, where my vintage units have metal. It's a small gripe, but that's truly the only thing that bothered me (and rather insignificantly).I'm so pleased with this unit, I look forward to upgrading my office stereo to the A-S801 in the near future.
