Causes: Animals, Environment, Environmental Education, Wildlife Preservation & Protection, Wildlife Sanctuaries

Mission: Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary's mission is providing lifelong sanctuary to non-releasable Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem wildlife while sharing a message of education and conservation. For 35 years, we have provided homes to animals that rescue/rehab centers declare to be too badly injured, too habituated to humans, or too emotionally damaged to live in the wild. The education part of our mission calls for engaging the public through education about wildlife conservation and environmental responsibility.

Results: Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary has provided homes to hundreds of native Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem animals, ranging from bison and bears to hawks and doves. Each animal that we accept becomes our responsibility for the rest of its life. At the same time, each of those animals provides an educational opportunity that can prevent other local animals from ending up in a facility like ours.

Target demographics: Native wildlife that can't be released into the wild due to injuries, habituation, and other issues

Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 30 animals, more than 14,000 visitors, and the 2,200 people who participated in our education programs.

Geographic areas served: The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem

Programs: Taking in native wildlife whose only other option is euthanasia — Teaching about this incredible ecosystem we live in through guided tours, classroom visits, summer camps, outreach programs, and other events— Providing conservation education through downloadable content on our website— Producing a wildlife podcast that was downloaded over 10,000 times last year
