Our camps provide a reverence for nature and respect for the inter-relatedness of all living things on earth. Our camps are open to all, regardless of income or special needs, so that children appreciate diversity, become community leaders and develop lifelong values. In 2017 we served youths during 9 weeks of camp, providing 12,114 camper-weeks and financial assistance to over 1,186 children, family, and specialty camps for teens and athletes were provided to open new avenues of understanding with the outdoor environment while immersed together with family members or with others in competition or personal growth. Camps are age specific for the educational benefit of the child and geographically positioned for the convenience of working parents. Our camps are located in six locations throughout northern rode island and coventry and collectively serve children and teens up to 16 years of age. The programming of the camps builds health and fitness and teaches lifetime skills. In addition, the interaction with the other campers and with their own self awareness enriches the spirit that infuses character into the campers lives. adult, youth and family services: the ymca views health holistically: a healthy person has unity of body, mind and spirit. The ymca has identified the growing national obesity rates in this country as a critical social issue that must be addressed and our health and well being programs are designed to help people develop new skills and grow in spirit, mind and body by setting realistic goals for self improvement and disease prevention through an active lifestyle, proper nutrition, stress management, and health education. Ymca programs promote interaction, teamwork, and development of moral and ethical behavior, social skills and self esteem. The ymca also views the family unit as vital to the proper growth and development of children and the health and well being of the adult members of the family. The participation collectively and individually in active physical activities and educationally stimulating classes builds knowledge, confidence and bonds the family member to one's self and each other. The result is the growth of potential in individuals that serves the spirit, others and one's place in society.
