I went back and forth about whether to buy these or full-sized hoof nippers. I have four potbellied pigs living with me right now and one of them, a recent rescue, has badly overgrown hooves. He's a larger potbelly, but based on what I was reading in other reviews, these seemed the best bet.

Well, they are certainly sharp and rugged. However, I am not sure I expected them to be as small as they are, and my hands (also small) aren't big enough to take more than a little bit of hoof at a time. This isn't an issue with my relaxed, well-socialized pigs. It is with my big, nervous boy. I was able to clear some of the overgrown hoof away from the back of his foot, but when I got to the main toes, forget it. All it did was irritate poor Percy, who pulled the offended foot away. It also means I have to go out and spend more money on more equipment and I'm already stretched thin--I rescue pigs and goats and chickens.

These hoof trimmers are okay if you're trimming a tiny little amount off. They're really heavy-duty pruners, and I'll probably keep them just for that purpose. If you're on the fence between these and the big nippers, go big.

Had to sharpen them and they are not pointed enough to use for goat hoof clean out.

O.K, but didn't last long

Bought these a while back to trim pig hooves but they don't really work for that. Moving to the gardening supplies to prune plants.

Don't seem real durable. A bit flimsy.

Initially, I was very pleased with these trimmers. It is comfortable in my hands and the blades are sharp. Unfortunately, the blades are also on the thick side, making it difficult to trim areas where a bit more finesse is required. Great for your initial rough trimming, but definitely not good enough to do a finish job.
