Overall, I am happy with this tray feeder, but the rectangular shape is not ideal for bird feedings. It is large enough that birds often walk around on it rather than just sitting on the edge, which means there is more cleanup to be done later. If you have the right size pole, it fits perfectly and is easy to remove and replace for cleaning. I haven't used the grate much, as the one time I did birds did not eat as much of the food.

As you can see I live in a wooded area. We have all manner of birds and the screen keeps the bigger birds from kicking the seeds out of the pan. I now have a total of 5 and gave one to my daughter.

We wanted to expand feeding options for our local ground feeders, such as mourning doves and cardinals. This feeder is highly recommended, and understandably so, despite the relatively high price. The metal is heavyweight and the feeder seems well-made and well-finished.I mounted this on a pole and had some concern that the lack of a set-screw or other means of attachment would mean this would blow off in a strong wind (a metal sleeve in the middle simply slides over the pole). But we've had a couple extremely windy days (up to 45mph gusts) this winter already, and the feeder stayed in place. As always with this kind of outdoor product, I'll be watching how the paint holds up over the years, but my initial impressions are very positive.
