My application wasn't a typical I just need a longer cable situation. The problem: I have a media computer and PS5 in the living room and another computer in my office, all of which I wanted to physically wire into my router, which obviously can't exist in each room simultaneously. My house was pre-wired with two RJ45 outlets (cat6) in each room. Normal people would just set up their router and cable modem in their distribution panel where all the pre-wired cat6 cables come together and be done with it. But I didn't like the idea of having not one, but two electronic devices running upstairs in my master closet where I couldn't easily monitor them. (Perhaps a little OCD of me, I know.) Plus, the router has lights that convey useful information when troubleshooting, and so it didn't make sense to have the router (and cable modem) anywhere else except my office where I spend most of my time.BUT, if I keep the router in the office, how do I run an ethernet cable to my media computer and PS5 in the living room? When the solution dawned on me, I could barely sleep I was so excited! Namely, I could simply walk upstairs to the distribution panel and use these RJ45 couplers to join up the two cat6 cables from the living room to the two cat6 cables from the office! This effectively creates a pair of really long ethernet cables from the living room to my office behind my walls!Doing this allowed me to physically connect my media computer and PS5 to the ports on the back of my router. No more need for slow(er) wifi (100Mbps wireless vs 450Mbps wired).Very pleased!PS: I did not notice ANY reduction in bandwidth (slowdown) due to using these couplers.
