This is a genius little kit that uses the time tested Zippo wheel and lighter flint instead of making you scrape a flint rod with a steel scraper. It is much easier for a novice to use. Tip: read the instructions and try it once before you go camping or hiking. You'll need to familiarize yourself with gathering the dry twigs and other pieces of wood that make up the rest of the fire before you light these fluff balls and pellets up. These are just to start the fire, not be the fire.Be safe!

Very high quality fire starter. Definitely built to last, and nice that it seals up properly for the tinder bits. Great backup tool for any kit.

I managed to use it to light a campfire during a rainstorm, but it certainly wasn't easy. The striker works great, but the fuel marshmallows are difficult to fray enough to light and stay lit. Once lit though, you'll have a nice flame source for even a damp fire, and the case keeps everything dry.

Works great .I see other people seem to have problems starting a fire.the easiest way is to fluf up the tender round like cotton it has wax on it to make it stay dry. Very easy to use, I keep it in my pack for backup

I would definitely buy these again as gifts for friends. There is just one improvement that would make these even better. Allow the tube holding the flint to be opened with a thumbscrew instead of just a flathead screwdriver.

Good fire starting kit for the car. Compact, easy to use, and durable. Part of our winter emergency car kits.

While in many situations, this may not be the most practical - (something that a lighter could easily do), its main advantage is that it should work in those crazy extreme circumstances, thus giving you that extra piece of mind knowing you have a backup solution when paired with a regular lighter.

Bought this along side the mag spark and Typhoon matches thinking it would be good an emergency kit in the car, bigger mistake than the mag spark. wax ball doesn't really like to catch fire to the point that it'll take a few seconds for an actual lighter to catch it on fire when heavily fluffed out and it gives off a weak flame, you'd get better results trying to start a fire with the lint in your pockets. The flint wheel does it's job better than the wax pieces, but it uncomfortable and awkward outside it's base piece eliminating the option on making the system more compact by getting rid of that part. Only good thing that can be said is that the housing floats and does a good job keeping moisture out, but match containers that can do that are so cheap. For half the price you could make a system with a waterproof match case, cotton balls, and a bic lighter that'll start a fire much easier while hardly taking up more space. If you really like the concept of this system I would recommend the spark lite or an Exotac Nanospark instead.
