Bought this along side the mag spark and Typhoon matches thinking it would be good an emergency kit in the car, bigger mistake than the mag spark. wax ball doesn't really like to catch fire to the point that it'll take a few seconds for an actual lighter to catch it on fire when heavily fluffed out and it gives off a weak flame, you'd get better results trying to start a fire with the lint in your pockets. The flint wheel does it's job better than the wax pieces, but it uncomfortable and awkward outside it's base piece eliminating the option on making the system more compact by getting rid of that part. Only good thing that can be said is that the housing floats and does a good job keeping moisture out, but match containers that can do that are so cheap. For half the price you could make a system with a waterproof match case, cotton balls, and a bic lighter that'll start a fire much easier while hardly taking up more space. If you really like the concept of this system I would recommend the spark lite or an Exotac Nanospark instead.

The stack of 5 pieces of tinder fit inside the waterproof case and a vibrant red cap screws on to cover the flint wheel. It all fits nicely in your hand and works very easily to make sparks to light some tinder. Plus it floats if you drop it while fishing. I really like this.

I used these for an 8 day canoe trip, small and compact. The striker works like it is supposed to, and I love how the cotton fits inside and keeps dry, you just pull it out and attach to a stick and your in business. Great little fire starter.

I tested this fire starter on my last camping trip. I started a fire with it three days in a row. It is super easy to use. Some other reviews have stated that they didn't work, but I'm assuming they didn't use the tinder right. They don't light very easily if you don't fray them a bit. I scraped an edge with my knife and pinched/pulled some out to fray it and it started right up.
