I love this! It takes a couple tries to know how much wood to put in. Once you get past the learning curve, you'll love it! I even like the slow cooker function. It's not a crock. It's a light, nonstick pan. No weight to it but cooks the same. Very happy

My first impression is that it definitely works. As others have described, the controls are pretty complicated. It really could benefit from some additional buttons or a better UI. Other than that, I added an elastic strap to hold down the lid a bit better. I live in a 6 unit apartment and my stove vent inexplicably vents into a back stairwell where smoke alarms are located. I'm constantly setting them off when I'm searing roasts or frying stuff. My neighbors love me! LOL Without a little weight or a strap on the lid, the smoke does escape and I really want to be able to use it in my kitchen. My first test was to smoke fresh ground turkey patties on hot. They came out a bit too smokey but that's probably more related to the quantity/type of wood chips and needing to play with the settings. Overall, I'm very happy with it and am looking forward to using it often in my Chicago apartment year round.UPDATE after 3rd use: No regrets because I mostly needed a slow cooker but the smoking will definitely take practice and an understanding of the capabilities and limitations. Does it smoke stuff? Yes. Will it behave like a pellet grill/smoker? Absolutely not. You're going to need to accept these limitations and adjust accordingly. Use it to add a great smoke flavor to meats but you'll need to incorporate a cast iron grill pan or a broiler to get your meats to not have a steamed/boiled texture.

I so far have only used this as a slow cooker, but it does a fantastic job. It is much lighter than the average slow cooker which makes it more manageable to transport to another location, which we did over the holidays. It is nice and large - large enough that I was able to cook two boneless turkey breasts at one time. I am anxious to try the smoker feature, just haven't had the time to do so. Highly recommend based on the slow cooker feature alone.

I enjoy smoked foods, but I have never had a smoker, nor have I ever actually attempted to smoke my own foods, so I thought this would be a good first step for me. I have only tried it a couple times so far, and I am definitely going to need more practice, but I like having this option available to me. Since I am such a novice, I wish it would have included some recipes, but I am glad that it gave me a helpful smoking guide to know what type of smoke (cold/hot) and how long to cook different kinds of food. I really like that this product can be used as a smoker or as a normal slow cooker. The instructions are clear and it is easy to use both ways. It seems to cook fine both ways, and as a smoker it really does produce a good amount of smoke. The outside of the unit does get pretty hot, so you will definitely want to make sure to give it plenty of space when you are using it. One time I tried smoking some cheese, following the instructions in the booklet, but thought it seemed like it needed more time. I was wrong and my cheese melted all over and made a really big mess, so don't be like me! I can't smell anything for the most part, but every once in a while I get random bad smells and that is one that hung out in my house for a long time. No fault of the product; just the cook. With the exception of that time, the cooker has been pretty easy to clean. I don't know that this would replace an outdoor smoker for many people, but it is great to have for the cold seasons when you would rather stay inside. If your cook is better than I am, however, maybe it would be a good replacement. Since it is a larger unit to store, I love that it is a multifunctional device. The space it takes up feels more worth it when it counts as a smoker and a slow cooker.
