Through the years I have purchased a variety of devices (stoves, lanterns and catalytic heaters) that screw onto the top of 16.4 oz propane tanks. Most came with no base, others came with simple, round and rather narrow bases not much larger than the diameter of the tanks themselves.A Coleman lantern (Coleman Two-Mantle Propane Lantern) purchased about ten years ago came (and still comes) with a surprisingly superior base having recessed, web-like feet that rotate outward to provide a far-more secure base. Sadly, this base is not available separately or with any other Coleman product. The next-best base is this Stansport's base. Yes, it copies the best of that Coleman base with its four swing-out web feet. But, its plastic is much thinner and its edges much sharper than that Coleman base (the "Stansport" label was applied very crooked and was torn on every one of the four bases I have purchased so far - a minor but annoying imperfection).Still, this Stansport's rotating feet are a must for stand-up stoves, lanterns and catalytic heaters to minimize the chance your propane tank and device will tip-over, a likely disaster (and potential deadly one) when the device is in use.
