I discovered rite in the rain paper years ago doing first cave mappiing and then searching for paper that would allow me to take notes in the field during what else RAINY DAYS too. Sometimes down right down pours in IA. So company custom made leather bound field books around the 2nd or 3rd year with Holdens Foundation Seeds Inc. I asked the secretaries if I could substitute Rite in the Rain plain paper and they checked with book binders and said YES. After that every year my books were made with this paper. There were a few quirks with it. If it got a bit soggy a pencil could poke all the way through 2-5 pages..oops. So I learned to work with it and around those quirks. And take advantage of the better qualities of this paper making me return year after year to use again. (They asked me to keep it quite for the rest of the company who also takes notes in the field. Meantime the paper printed well so it didn't really look any different without closer inspection than any other breeders or field books as individuals we were using.) So I ordered back then from Ben Meadows the plain 8.5 x 11 inch paper to be bound and one of those times they sent me a free note book exactly like the yellow one sold here. Same size. I didn't find a use right then but my husband eventually put it to use and was instantly a fan...oh wait remember that caving note book I had bought before ever meeting Hubby to be and it had grids which helped to draw cave maps and what have you. It was kept in my glove box in the car. I think before we were ever engaged or there abouts hubby to be discovered this gem I think about 5 x 7 or 8 and it's been his ever since. So are we fans of this paper. YES. And to note what others have noticed it does have a coating. And yes that coating can effect or not play nice with all style of ink pens. It does best with soft or softer pencil leads and also ball point inks or Rite in the Rain Ink pens. However it doesn't do well with gel pens and can clog up some style of pens. I have never tried to use felt tip pens of any kind including sharpies. So can't guess either. But these note books hold up so well we don't need to purchase as often as we did regular paper note books same size. Hubby carries in his chest pocket. We have been married over 49 years plus now. No I doubt I can claim it's because of all the great qualities of Rite in the Rain paper but it didn't hurt either. This paper is not for everyone but for those of us who've see and utilize it's virtues it is for us.

I sometimes work outside when it's raining. Other times I work outside when it's very hot and humid. This allows me to make notes and sketches that are not torn or smudged even if the paper is wet.

I bought this to use as a notepad for training at a coffee shop, and it he'd up well! Spilled multiple things on it and nothing happened to my notes. Husband uses them in the military as well, practically indestructible!

I've been using this product for a week now. My BiC ball-point pens have no trouble writing in this notepad. I ordered Zebra JK G-301 gel refills, not realizing gel ink was not recommended for this water-proof product. I will test them out anyway, just in case it works.I really wanted the plastic covers to block my sweat from spending so much time working outside in the heat. My old Mead pocket notepads were falling apart from all my sweat. This is holding up great, so far. Will order again!

I have used these before and they are top notch durable fit for purpose writing pads. Great size, and authentic.

These do allow you to write on them when wet.

Aside from being rainproof they are durable. Mine stays in my back pocket all the time and has never fallen apart like a regular notepad. The ruler on the edge of the cover comes in handy from time to time as well!

I use these for logging ham radio contacts while using the radio for Summits on the Air on mountaintops. Have been rained on, have dripped sweat onto the pad, and even had thawing frost drop on me from overhead branches. The paper remains intact and the notes are legible.
