Like other reviewers have said, this is water resistant, not water proof. But if you know that going in, And you don't want to spend the money on a hard shell, this is a great option.We took this camping about 2 hours away on a Subaru Outback. Going there, we had to stop and adjust the straps because they were incredibly noisy on the interstate. But that was just trial and error on our part.Coming home we drove through torrential rain, stopping for about an hour in the worst of it.So through 3 hours of heavy rain, the sleeping bags on the edges were damp but not soaked.I'd make this purchase again and work around it it not being water-tight to avoid paying for and storing a hardshell.

Bought for a 17hr drive from San Antonio to Louisville. I was able to place it ontop of my Acadia and load it up with no issues during the drive. Once we reached our destination, I folded it up and placed it in the cargo area. The morning we came back, the rain was coming down hard for a few hours and it kept everything dry inside.
