If you love fish, then you MUST buy this!!! It is definately a life saver! let's just say that I was blind before using this wonderfull kit. I wrongly assumed that because the water was crystal clear, it was not deadly toxic.. yeah right.. now, I test once a week (it is a bit difficult to adapt to all the steps at first, but you will get the hang of it) and as soon as I notice the levels getting out of control, I use the api solutions to keep them in line. You can buy them separately, to control ph, amonia, nitrite and nitrate. You wont regret it, and your fish will THANK YOU:)

Got these for my axolotl tank to make sure it was cycling correctly, the kit is easy to use and has more features than a dip strip (and is probably way more accurate too)

I purchased this test kit along with my first aquarium. I've been using it to do a fishless cycle since November. Test kit works great for testing PH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. It has good instructions and a legend to compare your results to so you can verify the levels in your tank.This test is presumably more accurate than any test strips even if it takes a little longer. The whole testing process takes about 10 mins, and 5 of that is waiting for results before comparing to the legend. The only gripe is that it can be hard to tell what ppm level you are at sometimes with the colors (I struggle with the Nitrates), but even if you don't have an exact match, it's still easy to tell roughly where your levels are.

Very crucial with fish keeping. You definitely want to know what your water parameters are!

I've been using this test kit since I first got into the hobby. It's a very easy and reliable way to test for basic parameters inside my tank and give me a general view of what's going on. However, my only complaint is that it's hard to tell the 5ppm, 10ppm and 20ppm nitrate levels apart since the colors are oh so similar. Other than that it's great.

(New tank setup) My tank had cycled and I didn't know it because of these test strips. Gave it 1 star because it detected 1 thing out of 5 correctly. I used them religiously 2X per week in anticipation for fish. Before I received these strips, I had put the recommend dose of Seachem Stability (bacteria) daily for 6 weeks in my tank. Got substrate and used filter media loaded with bacteria from my LFS to help boost the cycle. ONLY thing this kit reads accurately is the PH, I need a high PH for my African cichlids. All bottom substrate is aragonite and limestone. Got some fish after 8 weeks and they're doing great. This kit has not ONCE detected nitrites or nitrates during the startup. Still doesn't read any. My fish have been thriving, and that means increasing the bio load, aka pooping. Took 3 different sample to 3 different fish stores and they all detected nitrates around 20-30 ppm which is good, and tells me my suspicions were correct that my tank had cycled properly. Bought 2 other testing kits from other brands. Each kit tested the same as the LFS tests, and detected nitrates. Garbage, will never purchase another API product. Frustrated at the amount of money spent on something utterly useless. Burned me once, will not burn me again. Wish you all better luck but I would steer clear.

You should never own a fish without this. This can tell you how healthy your water is and what is unhealthy (if anything) so you can better treat it. This will help increase fish life and increase their quality of life.
