sure its cheap if i wanted a 200 dol unit to check a phone line id have hired it out --- it did the job with flying colors, our land line gets gutted by critters down the line half a mile - but it still needs to be verified that the issue is outside or there can be a charge, this little unit took care of that issue - yrs ago could make do with a spare phone - but who has one of those laying around - and if you do its still a pain in the neck - this is a plug n go

Comes with adapters for most connections you might need. Simple to use and the display is nice. Use it more than my fluke set.

Lasted 9 months with very little use. Numeral 1 key doesn't work any more. Alligator clips of slightly-less than average quality.

Honestly for the money it has been a great little unit, works for what you need it and it's not hundreds of dollars, have had it for about 6 months with heavy use and it's still going strong.

This is exactly what it looks like -- a very cheap phone paired with a couple break-out adapter cables. But for the DIYer or electrician who rarely deals with POTS phone wiring, it's a great value for the price.Two minor complaints: (1) The alligator clip adapter mixes up tip and ring, although that's not a problem for any purpose you'd use this kit for. (2) The phone needs to draw a bit of power from the line for the internal microcontroller to boot up, which means it only works on real phone lines and won't work at all as an external speaker on your cable toner, for example.

Due to the age of our subdivision, and the original buried phone cables, we have semi annual problems with our hard wired phone line. To confirm which side of the house connection was the problem, I unhooked the phone lines coming into my house and connected this handset directly to their wires which showed the problem was on their side of the connection.For less than $20 this is a handy DYI tool that doesn't take up much space. It is lightweight but doesn't appear like it would hold up to heavy usage so I wouldn't recommend it to someone doing frequent testing/repairs.

Very small and lightweight! I work at a major phone tv and internet company as a cable technician and this phone comes in handy! Great but simple features, it operates through the electricity received through dial tone. I use it as a troubleshooting tool

Had a job and forgot my main buttset but I keep this in the car as a back up because the size is small/compact. Worked for me. Its a little different than what I'm use to but it did the job and I will use it again and again. Good buy as a back up device.

Highly recommended for any technician that deals with fax devices. You'll be able to show the customer whether the problem is with the wall outlet or the device itself. Best to use with digital multimeter.
