Note: this bit does not fit your standard drill (which typically has a 3/8 inch chuck). I had to return this bit because it doesn't fit into my drill.

62; Although the bit is nominally 1234; long, it would be more correct to describe it as 2 3/434; long plus a 9 1/4 shank. Other long drill bits from other manufacturers that I've purchased have been about 934; of bit plus 334; of shank 62; To drill a 634; deep hole, with a drill with 934; of spiral grooves, you should pull the drill out to clear the spirals at least once (in order to minimize the potential of jamming, especially in hard or damp wood). If a long skinny drill (like this one) jams, it will almost certainly snap. But with the Irwin 62116 , you would have to clear deep holes much more frequently, every 234; or so, and doing so would be essential, not just 34;good technique34;. 62; If you simply need to drill a less than 334; deep hole at a distance -- for example, drilling through the short side of a soft pine 2x4 to run cable -- then the Irwin 62116 bit should work fine. 62; The Irwin 62116 bit did NOT come in a plastic sleeve, as have other long bits from other manufacturers that I have purchased. Since I may only use such a drill once every 5 years, it is nice to have a protective plastic sleeve. A quick spray with WD-40 will protect such a drill from rust when you put it away in your plastic sleeve. 62; Click on ???Stoney??? just below the product title to see my other reviews.
