This set has magnetic chess pieces but the round pieces for checkers are NOT magnetic. I wish the description would have been more specific about this since the way it's described leads you to think all the pieces are magnetic. I only gave 3 stars for travelling because obviously the non magnetic round checkers pieces will not stay on the board in a moving vehicle. The chess pieces are able to stay on the board though and the rest of the contents are a good value for the price paid.

This is a fun set up. When playing one game or the other, there is no storage area for the other game's pieces. This is NOT a wooden board, it is plastic.

The board is nice. It's made of recycled plastic type material. I got this for the magnetic function since I have cats and they tend to try to play with things like this and will ruin a chess game, so I thought the magnetic feature would be good to avoid a cat related incident.. The checkers pieces aren't magnetic, which was a bit of a bummer because I do enjoy playing both, so keep that in mind. There's also no bag or anything to contain the pieces so I use a zip lock so they don't dump out if it opens up. There's also no extra checkers pieces so make sure you don't lose any as there's just the right number lol. In the past kits I've owned they throw in 1-2 extra just incase, but not in this set. The colors are kind of ugly and the colors of the pieces kind of clash with the board and make it look even worse lol. Why don't they match the board!? Not something I would display on a table, but it's functional, lightweight, and good for travel, space saving, or anyone on a budget.

Size and price are good for beginners. But magnetic didn't really worked

All pieces were not magnetized as would be implied by using the word sets in the headline of Magnetic Travel Chess Board Game Sets. Chess pieces are magnetized but checkers are not. I liked the set for its size so I bought magnets to stick on and now it works properly as a travel game that cannot be upset easily. I would not have been so inclined to have to 'fix' one game if I had paid the full price.

Bought this as a gift for my husband who is new to chess. It's a great thick board and the pieces feel substantial. It is a great beginner board because it travels well and the price was nice but not too expensive if he ends up loosing interest.
