This hydrometer is easy to use but very hard to read due to the clear plastic that the numbers are printed on. Would improve this by printing numbers on top of a background like white instead of the clear plastic. The readings area little bit off as well.

Must be tilted a few degrees clockwise to accurately measure water. Therefore, should keep in mind when measuring battery cells. Otherwise, seems to work OK.

It takes a couple of pumps and discharges to get a consistent reading. I trust reading after that. Suggest rinsing with tap water before storing. Or rain water.

Float hydrometers should be preferable to this pointer unit, but floats aren't as accurate or consistent as they used to be. Just my opinion after recently buying two floats, one expensive, one cheap.I'd like this Ezred better if the bulb were a bit larger and the scale more complete, but at least it gives consistent readings if used properly. I suspect it reads a bit high, but still in the ballpark.

The printing on the front telling you what the readings are- falls off. This is obviously a bummer. I hope the company offers printed clear labels to fix them! I've had mine for about 3 years and nearly half of the printing is gone. The shell might be polycarbonate. A strong but brittle plastic, if that makes sense. IOW if you don't bang it around or leave it in the sun it'll last a long long time. The only Difficulty in using it is that bubbles sometimes like to stick to the disk, thereby increasing its buoyancy and reading. If you get a peculiarly high reading. retest that cell and tap the unit until the bubbles release. I hope the company has a chemist who can recommend a suitable hydrophilic coating for the disk to prevent such adherence. It is lacking, but by looking at the reviews, all the options are lacking. If your digits have not peeled yet I'd give them a coat of something clear, but nothing that should make them peel up. Maybe place a piece of packaging tape over the numbers. Be aware tho that if you ever remove that tape, you'll be left with a clear gizmo looking for a new use. Perhaps a thin coating of Elmer's glue? I don't know, and my numbers are too far gone to experiment. I'll need to hash in some lines with a Sharpie soon so I have something, anything, to go by.

The precision is very good, but the quality of construction should be better. Overall, is a good product.

This is a well made tool. Construction and ease of use are great. I am surprised to read the scale goes from 1100 to 1225...then there are no markings until 1250 then up to 1300. I had to guess all of my readings as they all fell between 1225 and 1250 where there are no markings. I wonder why there is a blank space between 1225 and 1250.

Seems to work alright. I tested it with fresh water and NaCl saturated brine for a quick Q.C. and the density read accurately. My golf cart batteries that are running at about 1/2 to 2/3 capacity read in the green (good) range, so i guess that the acid concentration is not the problem...maybe need to de-sulfur? Anyway, the unit is well made, and easy to read. The density indicator swivels on a pin and needs to be tapped gently before use to make sure it can travel freely and isn't hung up against the sides. Also be sure to tap off all the bubbles to get an accurate reading.
