I struggled with the beginning of this book, thought the first few chapters were boring and pointless. I perservered though and towards the end, I didn't want to put it down. There was one time I felt the author put his little friend in danger by deciding to hike in bad weather, but it was made clear throughout the book how much Tom loves Atticus and Max. I was very touched by his loyalty to Max and his love for Atticus. I enjoyed his emotional journey of coming to terms with his father's life and loving him in the end. I look forward to reading Will's Red coat next.

A delightful story if you love dogs, and one man growth through their adventures together.

I really enjoyed this book especially because I knew the area where the author lived and I had hiked all the mountains that he talked about in the book. Without that the book still would’ve been good but with that the book was absolutely excellent!

Very good book. Really enjoyed the adventures of Tom and Atticus. The chapters leading to their adventures gave great meaning to what they were accomplishing.

This true story of a damaged journalist whose life is changed by a puppy he takes on and their adventures in nature is heartwarming and provides direction for living a meaningful life .

This book was referred to me by someone at jury duty, I love animal stories. This one took me a while to get into it as I had not expected a self reflection healing book. Mid way through it all came together for me, tears and all. So in the end I can say I really enjoyed this book

I enjoyed this book very much. The consensus at book club from the rest of the group was 'a bit repetitive'. It was fun for me to hike alongside Tom Atticus over and over. True stories are my favorite...so I may be bias in that way Even so, I would recommend this book!

Enjoyable book especially if you are interested in dogs and/or hiking.

This is an amazing memoir -- amazing that a 20-pound Miniature Schnauzer could climb all those mountains! Being the caretaker of two Minis, I can't imagine either of them being able to accomplish that feat. But Attius was different. Tom Ryan tells us that several times in the book. I loved the easy-reading story of Atticus and Tom and how they changed each others' lives through their adventures. I was sad when I reached the last page -- my mark of a really good book.

Great book for those who loves the outdoors and nature. Very cute and entertaining book
