I am what you call a novice fiber splicer, but I do coordinate a lot of production splicers. We have probably ran into every kind of fiber manufacturer out there. I am continuously borrowing out this tool to production splicers because they don't ever seem to have the correct mid sheath tool which can cost upward of 1000.00 dollars or more. My biggest problem with this tool seem to be getting it back from the production splicers before they leave town. The only problem I have had is sometimes the latch will pop open, I'm sure this is because of the way I'm holding it. Anyhow for the price no splicer should be without it because it sure can come in handy. Just make sure the tube is snug but slides smoothly and apply continuous pressure while holding the tool closed, 34;don't trust the latch34;.

I sure wish we had this when we built our daughter's house a few years ago. My husband did the wiring and I remember how hard it was on the hands splitting those wires. We are remodeling at the moment so he was glad to see this and it works so well. No pain to the hands and done in an instant. I'm sure it was probably made for the fiber optic lines but it works as well for do it yourselves people like us. Very nice and has a lifetime warranty.

Small, very well made and durable. Designed to strip the buffer tubes off of fiber optic cables. I've been using it for the past couple of weeks and it's been working flawlessly. Blades are very sharp and do a great job.

I've been using this splitter since the day I received it and it has saved me so much time. It's usage is pretty straightforward; see which way the blades are going, then put the wire in facing the correct direction, close the lid, then slide! Easy as that, the wire is split. It's such an easy tool, yet so ingenious, that I'll be using it for years to come.

Very small tool so it is easy to keep in a tool pouch. The hinged halves snap together and by pressing on the locking tab they release and come apart. There are 6 precision grooves ranging from 1.2mm to 3.3mm in diameter. The reason for such precision is so no damage is done to the fiber. All you do is choose the correct groove either by the size markings or by seeing which groove best fits your wire. Then you close the cutter noticing the arrow on the top of the cutter which indicates the blade location and pulling direction. Make sure the lock is engaged and pull. Replacement blades are available.

This is made for optical fiber but does work on other small wires. It works great and is very durable, as we have dropped it several times with nothing breaking off. This is a very small item, fits easily into your pocket. Can also be easily lost so be aware of where you put it when you put it down somewhere.

A handy tool for splitting the jacket of optical cables, the Jonard MS-6 Mid Span Splitter has a simple but efficient design. You choose the proper groove, lock in place and move the cable in the indicated direction. It does the job effectively while being small enough to put in your pocket. When the blade is dull, it is easily replaced and, as other reviewers have indicated, Jonard stands by their products. It may seem a bit expensive for a small piece of plastic, but there is a lot going on in this little tool. For those who want something that does the job and does not take up excessive room in their toolkit, this answers the call.

This is a great little product - super compact, but does exactly what it says it does. It works well and it so small that it's easy to take on the go and use on the job.

I'm a lot more impressed with this thing than I had been just from looking at the picture. I thought it was going to be just some overpriced plastic, but the reality is, it's a precision tool with a lot of heft to it. It won't take your fiber down to the glass, but it gets through just about any size jacket super easy without damaging the cladding. Glad to have this.

Gauging by the price I'd imagine the Jonard Tools MS-6 Mid Span Slitter is geared towards professional tradesman rather than the usual at home handyman. The Jonard Tools Slitter features 6 grooves and both sides of the groove feature a blade. The double blade configuration means an even and full cut. The slitter works great but to me does have a design flaw. I find it slightly awkward how the locking mechanism is designed. When you depress it to open, you have to push the opposing side through. I would have rather liked to have the depressing side be the opening side. In this configuration, the locking system is like a hooking tongue whereas if reversed it would be more like a locking latch. All in all, still quite workable, but I'd imagine the 34;tongue34; might one day snap off. Of course, there is a lifetime warranty, so this design quirk can mostly be ignored. Another note, in the product pics, the hinge is shown as a flat or slot head joint but my slitter features an allen or hex key head.

We have 3 major projects going this summer, all involving wire with ends needing to be stripped or freed from casing. We are wiring up an attic, rewiring several old antique lamps, installing a ceiling fan and I'm putting a new music system into my knitting room. After nearly taking off my fingers trying to strip wire, I thought we could use this. As soon as my husband saw it, his eyes lit up. You'd think it was Christmas. This product is so easy to use, it should be standard equipment for DIYers. Super effective and time saving. Precisely scores open wire coating without cutting the internal wires. the 3.3 mm size fit my speaker wire perfectly. Took my project time from hours to minutes. We are not professionals, just ambitious home owners but we've already gotten an equivalent of the purchase price in time savings and injury avoidance.
