In my household you can’t go wrong with a Melissa and Doug puzzle. The reason for 4 starts is the illustration of the rino and hippo. They just seem a little wacky. I’ve seen another version with similar animals, by M D and the animals seem clearer. It’s still a great puzzle though.

My 1.5 years old niece loves animals and this was a perfect gift for her. Hasn't been used for long but seems reasonably good quality as of now.

We were given this as a gift. It is the older version and pretty well made. I find it cute and has been used by at least three different children now and still looks good. I wish the animals image was not shown underneath though since its too much of a give-a-way as to where each animal goes. I want deeper thinking.

My 12 month old had been playing obsessively with the farm version of this board since she was eight months old. Playing obsessively means carrying the animals around in her mouth and leaving them in random places. So we got this one as well, she loves the lion and zebra best. I still like the farm one better however because it's easier to come up with sounds to demonstrate for each animal. I have no idea what sound a zebra or an ostrich makes if anything. So we just work on colors with this one, although a hippo is not actually purple and a rhino is not actually blue, so the learning potential of this item is questionable. At 12 months she has not learned the actual game of putting the animals into their little slots, but I guess that will come later and it still has a lot of potential for fun with the great colors and shapes.
